"SANTO SUBITO" (SAINTHOOD FAST)

Come è avvenuto per Madre Teresa - anch'essa santa a furor di popolo - viene fatta un' eccezione straordinaria per Papa Giovanni Paolo II. L'annuncio della Sua beatificazione, da parte del nuovo Papa Benedetto XVI, è stato fatto in un giorno simbolico: il 13 maggio che è la festa della Madonna di Fatima, tanto cara al Pontefice scomparso, ma anche giorno in cui nel 1981 Wojtyla subì l'attentato in piazza San Pietro per mano del terrorista turco Alì Agca.

As it has been for Mother Theresa - also she saint  by public acclaim - an extraordinary exception is made for Pope John Paul II. The announcement of His beatification, for the part of the new Pope Benedict XVI, has been made in a symbolic day; May 13th which is the feast of Our Lady of Fatima, so dear to the late Pontiff, but also the day on which in 1981 Wojtyla suffered an attempt on his life in Saint Peter's Square by the hand of the Turkish terrorist Alì Agca.
